When the Democrats passed Mr. Biden’s $1.9 trillion spending spree in March, a lot of people got a lot of free money – thousands of dollars in many cases. But the bill is already coming due for that free money, and, as many of us warned, it turns out that free money is very expensive. Indeed, it turns out that the very same families most harmed by the lockdowns will be the most harmed by paying the bill for the lockdown relief. It comes to about $15,000 for an average family and the first installment is already reflected in the rising inflation sapping the purchasing power of working families.

Washington, D.C.- Representative McClintock was honored by National Taxpayers Union (NTU) for having one of the strongest voting records in Washington, D.C. for supporting limited government, economic freedom, and low taxes. This year Representative McClintock ranked #1 on NTU’s House scorecard and he is one of only 33 House members to have earned the “Taxpayers’ Friend Award” for his outstanding voting record during the 2020 Congressional session.

It was no accident that when we finally won control of the border and cut the flow of low wage labor, Americans saw the strongest wage growth in 40 years, the lowest unemployment rate in 50 years and the lowest poverty rate in 60 years – and for the first time in decades the wage gap between rich and poor narrowed. This bill extends amnesty, green cards and a path to citizenship to somewhere between 1 and 2 ½ million illegal immigrants now working in agriculture – and their families -- in a manner that will depress wages not just in agriculture, but in every field of the economy for years to come.

Whenever the left has taken control of local law enforcement, the result is predictable and catastrophic. They act to defund the police, deliberately withhold police protection from honest shopkeepers and citizens, declare sanctuaries for criminal illegal aliens, decline to charge criminals and prevent law-abiding citizens from protecting themselves. We now see the result: sky-rocketing homicides and other violent crimes – preying most of all upon the decent citizens of our inner cities.

Every American needs to see Angela Marsden’s tearful video as she pours out her frustrations as a small restaurant owner in Los Angeles. Forced to drastically curtail her business during California’s brutal shutdowns, she took out an $80,000 loan to meet all the expensive requirements to move her dining outside and salvage what was left of her life’s work. Instead, authorities arbitrarily changed the rules, and shut her down again – a death sentence for her ten-year-old restaurant. Yet the same authorities permitted a film production company to offer the very same outdoor dining across the very same parking lot the day she had to close her business.

Governor Newsom made a truly stunning discovery regarding Covid-19 last week. Apparently, it has learned to tell time. This is why, acting under the strictest of scientific standards, he has used his galactic powers to order Californians to run home before 10 pm, lock their doors and hide from this insidious virus until daybreak. Unfortunately, Covid doesn’t seem to be following the curfew, so Newsom is now threatening a “hard lockdown” of virtually the entire state throughout the Christmas season. Don we now our plague apparel. There’s just one nagging question the Governor hasn’t bothered to answer: if these lockdowns are so successful, why do we need to keep having them?

There’s a curious thing about the oath taken by every member of our armed forces. Those who defend our country never swear to “support and defend” the United States Government. They never swear to “support and defend” the United States of America. The only oath they take is to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States.” The same oath is taken by every member of the government, from school board to President.

It was great to be a part of the 24th annual Lake Tahoe Summit held on August 25th, 2020. A resilient Tahoe requires resilient forests – and resilient forests require active scientific management.
