Water Optimization for the West (WOW) Act Introduced to Provide Pathway to Water Abundance

California Congressman Tom McClintock (CA-04) and 11 members representing western states today introduced legislation designed to reform water policy in the west. “Western water policy is a bureaucratic nightmare designed to delay and deny the storage, delivery and use of our abundant water by farmers and residents. Environmental groups have used the law to block construction on new reservoirs, resulting in man-made droughts that have devastated entire communities. This legislation provides a common-sense approach to allowing water to flow quickly and efficiently to the communities that need it, while maintaining environmental protections,” McClintock said...

Droughts are nature’s fault. Water shortages are OUR fault. Water shortages are a choice we made a generation ago when we stopped building new reservoirs to meet the needs of a growing population. We will not solve our water shortages until we build new reservoirs. And we cannot build new reservoirs until we overhaul the radical environmental laws that have made their construction endlessly time consuming and ultimately cost prohibitive.

Rim Fire Emergency Salvage Act Approved by House

The Rim Fire Emergency Salvage Act was approved today by the House of Representatives as part of a larger bill, H.R. 2954 (The Public Access and Lands Improvement Act). Title IX of that bill comprises the Rim Fire Salvage Act. The salvage language is the result of consultations with Democratic offices and with the U.S. Forest Service. The compromise language assures compliance with all environmental laws and maintains judicial review, while assuring that salvage can begin this spring.
