They call the Korean War America's forgotten war. It must never be forgotten, and all of you who are here today, and all those who made this memorial possible, assure that it will never be forgotten. It was 64 years ago this past Wednesday that the North Korea dictatorship, supported by the communist governments of the Soviet Union and China, launched a massive attack upon the South. Thus began the Korean War.

Opening Statement of Chairman Tom McClintock: The Subcommittee meets today in response to urgent protests made by a wide range of state and local governments, farmers, ranchers, public land users and private land owners in response to threatened action by the EPA and the Forest Service to vastly expand their authority over water use at the expense of long established state jurisdictions, rights and prerogatives and in direct violation of the constitutional separation of powers.

The amendment before the House forbids defense dollars from being spent to fund two executive orders and several other provisions of law that require the military to squander billions of dollars on so-called "Green Energy." For example, according to the GAO, the Navy has spent as much as $150 per gallon for jet fuel. In 2012, the Navy purchased 450,000 of biofuel for its so-called "Green Fleet," at the cost of $26.60 per gallon, at a time when conventional petroleum fuel cost just $2.50.

One of the biggest complaints I hear is the practice of forcing taxpayers to underwrite the losses and risks of politically well-connected companies. THEY reap the profits while American taxpayers pay for their losses. Today, the House considers a bill that perpetuates this policy with the objective of creating jobs - not in America, but overseas.

Congressman McClintock will present awards to high school students who earned the top spots in this year's Congressional Art Competition. The students, teachers and families will be honored at a reception on May 14, 2014. The reception will be held at 5:00 p.m. at BI Design Studio, 1004 White Rock Road, Suite 200, El Dorado Hills. The theme of this year's competition is "Proclaim Liberty."
